This gorgeous, crocodile textured blue tote is the intern pick of the week, in honor of our recent pluvial weather here in Los Angeles.  It satisfies our attraction to glamour with its large front pocket, accented by a gold pyramid turn lock.

It pairs well with a cute cardigan, blood orange tunic, and floppy hat for a stroll around downtown, now that we can finally embrace the sun.

Au revoir, rain!

LACMA Explores the History of European Fashion

Fashioning Fashion: European Dress in Detail, 1700-1915

Fashioning Fashion: European Dress in Detail, 1700-1915 is the Los Angeles County Museum of Art’s latest acquisition. This major collection of European men's, women's, and children's garments and accessories, according to the LACMA website, examines both “fashion's aesthetic and technical development from the Age of Enlightenment all the way to World War I.”

The evolution of luxurious textiles, tailoring techniques, and trims are presented in an open-space, warehouse style. There are wooden boxes painted matte gray and bold, capitalized Helvetica font announcing the collection at every corner. The pieces are suspended by clear threads within the cubes or displayed on life size, white mannequins complete with hairstyles of the time.

A fully finished men’s suit circa 1790 (France) in a wool plain weave, with sequins and metallic thread embroidered appliqués. The jacket alone weighs approximately six pounds.

A women’s dress by the House of Rouff circa 1897 in silk twill and silk cut velvet on twill foundation with a bow head piece. The headdress reminded me of how much history influences modern fashion as it bore a striking resemblance to one in a widespread 2009 Juicy Couture ad.

Womenswear Dress c.1897 (House of Rouff)

A men’s vest circa 1789-94 (France) in linen canvas with silk needlepoint. The body featured silk supplementary warp cut-pile trim and silk embroidery of a caterpillar and butterfly on the collar.

Even though it is still very top secret, I can tell you this much: it’s easy to navigate, it will have video, links to our style blogs, style tips, and much more!

The fashion bookstore is having a sale, gotta go!

Heyyyyyyyyyyyyyy folks! Here in California we are about an hour away from my favorite holiday: THANKSGIVING! Once again, it's been awhile since we last posted something on here to keep you updated. There's been a lot of changes happening in the showroom but have no fear! We will be back to our regular programming soon!

Before the holiday season officially begins, on behalf of all the interns here in the showroom we wish everyone a Happy Thanksgiving for those who celebrate this awesome holiday and a great holiday season full of love, peace, shopping, and warmth to everyone!

What are your favorite holidays? I especially love Thanksgiving for the simple idea that you celebrate being thankful and that's that. No stressing over gifts, buying presents except for maybe a pie if you're a visitor for dinner! Besides the turkey, stuffing, baked beans, pies, Thanksgiving is the simple idea of loved ones getting together over food, football games, and there isn't a fuss about presents!

I'll keep this post short! It's time to figure out my Thanksgiving feast-proof outfit! Have a safe holiday! Until next time!

xoxo,

Pearl

We've been missing in action for quite some time and we'd like to apologize for this. We've been busy in the showroom organizing and performing inventory! This hasn't been an easy task. Charlie has tons of items from handbags, jewelry, accessories, and even cosmetics! Myself along with the other interns had a blast going through the many items Charlie has made over the years. My personal favorite are the clutches! I wish I could show everyone all of them, they are to die for!

Besides organizing and performing inventory, the interns and I have spent our lunches walking around the beautiful Downtown LA area. Its amazing and we're working on some projects we can't wait to share with all of you soon. Until then, have a great weekend everyone!

Sincerely,

Pearl

Press Kits. Press Kits. Press Kits.

Hi everyone! We've been meaning to do an update and share with you all the things we're learning here at the Charlie Lapson showroom, but as usual it has been very hectic. Last week my big task was to organize and create press kits. If you don't know press kits are made up of six to 24 pages of products, celebrity sightings, and press clippings that showcase someone's work.

My fellow intern Rebecca and I have been organizing the different things that make up a press kit from products to celebrity sightings, and press from all over the world. Let me tell you there were tons of paper to file away! Pictured above  and below are some of the press kits we were organizing and filing away. With Charlie traveling constantly press kits are his quickest way to showcase the work he's done to people. But due to this, press kits have piled up and needed much organizing. Yes it took a few weeks but we are glad to say this task is finally done and are in much better shape and form!

Seeing all  the recognition Charlie has received all over the world was really cool. It reminded me that hard work pays off in the long run. Well back to more work! Until next time!

Hi, Pearl here! We were just debating which Fall runway make-up look is our favorite, and we all decided: smoky eyes! I love how makeup artists create the smoky-eyed look with a twist: sophisticated silver and shimmering grey-violets blended with bright purple and blue. The added color gives a daring, in-your-face feel similar to the effects of pop art. So haute couture! I usually do the classic smoky-eyed effect to add a bit of sex appeal: allover black liner smudged around my eye with the cat-eye wingtip, light pink blush and nude gloss lips.

When I just want that extra natural glow I use shades of brown with a peachy cheek color.  If I’m in the mood for that overall natural shine I would use a nude lip gloss, but if I feel like being bold then I use a pop of color such as fuchsia.

Hot Product: The most popular liners I use are in black and plum. Some like using the “Liquid” eyeliner but I personally like using the cream liners. With the cream liner and liner brush it makes it much easier to smudge the liner around your eyes and draw that perfect wingtip too!

Pearl is my name and today is my first day! My very first task was to check out the Textile Week Los Angeles event held downstairs in our building, the California Market Center. Here are a few photos I snapped of the different textiles and designs I saw that I thought were amazing! My personal favorite is the fourth photo with the different shades and textures of grey.

It was intimidating for the first few seconds seeing everyone with badges titled "Buyer" or "Textile Merchandiser," all walking with a purpose. But I quickly pushed such thoughts aside as I was easily distracted by the different textiles I was seeing.  I could never have imagined all the different kinds of textiles that were right in front of my eyes.  I pictured myself as a designer shopping for new fabric and I felt like a kid in a candy store!  Here is a photo of some inspiring words worth taking away from my very first task.

Sincerely,

Pearl

So I know it has been a while since we have checked in with all of you, but it has been a time of great changes at the Charlie Lapson Group. As you know James, Raz and I are all interns, and internships either become positions or end. So, without further ado, I will tell you my secret. I, Emma, the "future celebrity stylist" became an assistant! I know, it doesn’t sound too exciting, but to me it's just another step in the right direction. Success!

So that was the good news, but there is always more to the story. The amazing James and Russian Raz, are no longer going to be working at The Charlie Lapson Group. James has decided to move to New York for a life change and a new position. Raz went back to Russia since her study abroad program was only for the summer. They may check in and let you know how they are now and again but overall get ready for some great new points of view.

Starting this week is Bronson, who was a former pro skier and has chosen to make fashion his life, with a move from Utah to Los Angeles. He will be giving the masculine side of things, with his take on men’s fashion and how it feels to move your life from Middle America to the West Coast.

Then there is Pearl who was born here in the U.S. and also speaks fluent Cantonese from growing up with parents from Hong Kong. She will be giving the global perspective and that eastern edge to our blog. So I hope you will enjoy our new interns, I certainly am!
